Updated: Jun 4

Baker McKenzie announced today that leading leveraged finance specialist, Kenneth Ching, has joined the Firm as a partner in Hong Kong, boosting the Firm's market-leading Banking & Finance practice.

Kenneth brings with him significant experience in advising banks, credit funds and alternative capital providers, private equity sponsors, and corporate borrowers on a variety of large-cap and middle-market financing transactions, including leveraged buyouts, take-privates, domestic and cross-border acquisition financings, funds financings, real estate financings, structured financings, non-contentious restructurings and other event-driven financings.

He has counseled many leading Chinese and international companies on the financing of their outbound acquisitions in the technology, telecommunications, entertainment, real estate, consumer goods and retail industries across Asia, Europe and North America.  He joins the Firm from Shearman & Sterling in Hong Kong.

"Kenneth is a highly skilled lawyer and has strong connections with the key players within the banking, leveraged finance and private equity community in both Hong Kong and Mainland China. He will be a tremendous asset to our Greater China team," Steven Sieker, Managing Partner of Baker McKenzie's Hong Kong office, said.

Steven continued, "We remain committed to building our transactional capabilities in Greater China, so that we are well placed to assist our clients not only in facing the current headwinds, but also be ready to adjust to the 'new normal' and thrive in the post-pandemic world. Kenneth will help us to build and expand the strength of the Firm today and to help us emerge even stronger in the years to come."

"As a result of the uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, many companies around the world have significant debt financing needs. These alternative capital providers are emerging as important players in the region's lending markets, and they will no doubt have an even more important role to play as providers of financing as we emerge from the pandemic," said Andrew Lockhart, head of the Firm's Banking & Financing Practice in Hong Kong. "Kenneth's arrival comes at an exciting time for our practice. He has an active practice in this area, and his experience and relationships complement our existing capabilities. His track record in complex, cross-border leveraged and acquisition financing transactions will no doubt be of significant value to our clients."

Kenneth added, "I am excited to join Baker McKenzie. The Firm has a leading Banking & Finance platform across the region, with impressive coverage and capabilities across the full spectrum of debt financing products. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues across the network, building on the Firm's strong platform, and strengthening our leveraged and acquisition finance and alternative credit provider offerings for our transactional clients."
